Westworld

HBO can do no wrong at the moment. Some of the best television around comes from the American premium cable company and since its introduction in 1972 has delivered us with some of the finest works of television ever. From GAME OF THRONES, GIRLS, OZ and THE WIRE, when it comes to television, HBO are truly the kings.

They look to continue their winning streak with next year’s WESTWORLD, of which they have just released their first teaser trailer, which you can watch below.

Based on the film by JURASSIC PARK writer Michael Crichton, WESTWORLD tells the story of a theme park where guests can live out their Wild West fantasies. From gunslinging with bandits, to hitting the saloon and becoming the hero of the west, the fantasy is yours for the making. However when a robot only known as The Gunslinger shoots and kills an innocent guest, the robots start to malfunction and question their existence as animatronic characters built for the pleasure and amusement of others. Meaning danger lurks around every corner for any remaining guests.

Obviously the comparisons between this and Crichton’s JURASSIC PARK is noticeable and has become a recurring joke on the Internet. HBO look to be distancing themselves from these comparisons, with the overall style of this teaser creating more of an adult and sinister tone to compared to the ‘family friendly’ one that is presented in JURASSIC PARK.

The series is set to air in 2016 and boasts a diverse and extraordinary cast including Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood and Ed Harris with Jonathan Nolan (brother of Christopher) writing and directing the pilot episode.
