Mary Poppins fans, we have some good news for you, as you can see in the photo above, the first image of Emily Blunt as the aforementioned titular character has been released by Disney for MARY POPPINS RETURNS – and it has got us rather excited!
The patterned bag, the hat, the tilt of the head, the leafy London street, it’s all just simply perfect! There are so many reboots and remakes racking up the cinema listings of late, but there is so much buzz around this film, with the original so iconic, that we can’t wait to imagine singing about spoonfuls of sugar and begin flying around in anticipation to see more from the sequel. We can already imagine the ever-talented Emily Blunt as everyone’s favourite nanny with her broomstick and parrot-topped umbrella!Â
In the original film, Julie Andrews was just sublime so Emily Blunt certainly has big boots to fill in this one, but we suspect she is up for the challenge.Â
Joining Blunt on the big screen for this one is Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, a street lamplighter who could well be an updated version of Dick van Dyke’s lovable chim chimney sweep from the original, Meryl Streep as Poppins’ cousin Topsy, who wasn’t in the 1964 classic, and Colin Firth as William Weatherall Wilkins. Angela Lansbury will also be in the movie.Â
MARY POPPINS RETURNS will see the director and producing team behind Disney’s hit musical INTO THE WOODS helming this one with Rob Marshall in the director’s chair and Marshall, John DeLuca and Marc Platt producing.
This will be a great Christmas treat for everyone next year as MARY POPPINS RETURNS is scheduled for release December 25th, 2018.Â
