Gunnar Sizemore
The young actor spoke to Film and TV Now about his busy acting career.

GUNNAR SIZEMORE

He’s young, he’s enthusiastic and he’s set to be the next big star in Hollywood…

Speaking from a film trailer on the set of TV series, NASHVILLE, Gunnar Sizemore spoke to Film and TV Now about his many roles and what the future has in store for him.

The 9-year-old is proving to be an acting force to be reckoned with. Scooping up roles in films and television programmes has become the norm for the young, talented actor and his list of credentials just keeps on growing. We found out a little more about the vibrant performer who has a promising career ahead of him…

LMB: Currently out in the US and the UK is THE BOOK OF LIFE and you play the voice of Ignacio. For those who may not have seen it, can you tell us a bit more about the film?

GS: “The film is very colourful, a bit like Moulin Rouge and it is sort of like a Disney movie. There is a princess and a guy who is trying to win her over – and there is also another guy who tries to win her over too! There is a lot of comedy in it and it’s just an all around good film.”

LMB: Channing Tatum and Zoe Saldana also voice characters in the film, did you get to work with them much?

GS: “Sadly, no. I missed the premiere because I was shooting whilst they were there, so I didn’t get to meet any of them, which was disappointing.”

LMB: Having a producer like Guillermo del Toro you know the film is going to be great…

“Guillermo del Toro was the best – him and the director. They were just really great people to work with. I really enjoyed it all.”

LMB: Manolo has to face his greatest fears in the film, what would be your worst fear that you would not like to face?

GS: “That’s hard! It would probably be going to a carnival and seeing freaky clowns with their faces all painted up. I am not really a big fan of them!”

LMB:  You have lots of experience with film and TV work, how different is it to voice an animation movie?

GS: “Well, it is actually kind of the same whether you are on camera or in a booth for an animated character because it’s all so physical. You can really get into a character and you understand that you have to move the way the character would do physically.”

LMB: You have also just wrapped on another animation MAX & ME…

GS: “Yes, I have. It’s about somebody called Maximilian Kolbe and how he tries to find his way with God and become a saint. I am not sure when that one is released though…”

LMB: Over in the world of television, you are currently starring in NASHVILLE, how exciting is that?

GS: It is wonderful. The cast members are wonderful, the crew are great – everybody is just really good fun. I can’t really tell you too much about what is happening in the future for my character, you guys are just going to have to tune in…

LMB: I had a feeling you were going to say that! You’re a very busy person and you’re certainly working hard. Is it difficult for you to balance it all with school? Do your friends find it strange seeing you on the television?

GS: “Well I have a lot of friends that I have known for a really long time and they understand what I do. We find ways to balance it all out so that I have time with my friends, so that I have time for school and work – but I also do have time to relax! I learn on the road because we have a set teacher with us on Nashville, so she helps me a lot with my school work.”

LMB: How did you first become involved in acting? Was it through seeing your father act that started you off?

GS: “Well actually, it’s a really funny story. I went to a commercial audition with my Dad and the casting director saw me, and the director said to him about going for a different commercial audition which was a family one. I ended up getting it and I was really little and I didn’t know what was going on, but later on I understood and I knew that I wanted to do it. I was three or four when it happened, now I am almost 10-years-old.”

LMB: Do you have any area of preference to work in? E.g film, TV or animation?

GS: Not really. I actually enjoy all of them because they are all so good in different ways.”

LMB: If you could work with any actor, director or producer of your choice in the future, who would it be?

GS: My dream people to work with? Well, there would be a few people… One of the funniest people I have ever seen is Chris Rock, he’s great. Also Kevin James and Adam Sandler. I like the comical ones. For a dream film? I would love to be in a reboot of Spider Man! You never know what can happen. There are so many things that can be thrown at you all at once and you have just got to make the right decision. You never know.”

LMB: Out of everybody you have worked with and those around you, who has inspired you the most?

GS: My Dad. He helps me with everything I do. If I am having trouble doing something, he helps. My Mum does too, she helps me with a lot of things. If I am having trouble making a decision, they help me through it – they will tell me if I am making a good choice or one not so good. They help me with everything I do and I am really thankful to them for that.”

THE BOOK OF LIFE is out now in cinemas and you can also catch Gunnar in the TV show NASHVILLE. He is definitely a star of the future to keep an eye out for.
