Over the years, Australian actor has starred in some fantastic movies which have made him a household name to cinema audiences across the globe.

The talented actor can currently be seen on the big screen rocking a rather impressive beard and acting as a naughty pirate. To celebrate the release of PAN we thought it only right to take a look back at some of Jackman’s best and well known roles throughout his career.

  1. X-Men (2000)

Of course no Top 5 Hugh Jackman film list would be right without the inclusion of X-Men, playing the role of rude, argumentative, lone wolf ‘Wolverine/Logan’, X-Men sky-rocketed Jackman into hearts of audiences around the world. With the combined genius of director Bryan Singer as well as a multitude of incredible actors such as Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen, X-Men opened the doors to Marvel and DC universe and setting audiences up for the barrage of superheroes that are now gracing our screens and we couldn’t be more grateful. Take a look at Jackman showing off his badass mutant skills in the clip below.

2. The Prestige (2006)

(L-R) Michael Caine, Hugh Jackman

This is hands down one of my all-time favourite films, Jackman’s performance as magician Robert Angier is incredible against the equally outstanding performance from Christian Bale as Alfred Borden. The story follows two magicians, friends turned rivals, who try to out shine one another throughout their careers. In true Christopher Nolan style this film has suspense, wonder, excitement and keeps you guessing until the end.

  1. Pan (2015)

Jackman’s newest movie venture, Pan, tells the story of Peter Pan before he became the boy who never grew up. Jackman plays Blackbeard the ruthless villain of the tale, while thinking of the way he wanted to portray his character, Jackman mentioned in many interviews that “Joe (Wright) said he wanted theatricality, this is the world of a child’s imagination, so all the adults had to be partly frightening and partly ridiculous because that’s how kids see us.”

  1. X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

After the not so great X-Men Last Stand, it was questionable whether or not X-Men would be buried for the near future, but thanks to Bryan Singer (once again) that was not the case. Reprising his role as Logan/Wolverine, Jackman stars in X-Men Days of Future Past, bringing together the best of both sets of X-Men cast this cast provides a fantastic and thrilling superhero film. Focusing on Jackman as he is sent back in time to change the future he meets young Professor X and Magneto, played by James McAvoy and Michael Fassenbender. Jackman has made this role his and I’m sure the rest of the world will join me in sadness as he prepares for his last role as Wolverine before hanging up those adamantium claws for good.

  1. Les Misérables (2012)

Gaining an Oscar nomination for his performance as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, Jackman shows his theatre background in this huge musical production directed by Tom Hooper. Leading a star studded cast with actors such as Russell Crowe, Helena Bonham Carter as well as Colm Wilkinson, who originated the role of Jean Valjean in the first musical production and more through the story of a prisoner who breaks parole and lives his life caring after his factory workers daughter whilst avoiding the law. It was no wonder that Jackman received a nomination after his wonderful portrayal of a man wanting to be free but trapped by ghosts from his past. In addition to the casts amazing performances their singing throughout the film was phenomenal especially when you factor in that it was all done live, this is a film that will not be forgotten any time soon.

With so many fantastic films to choose from, it is difficult to cut down the choices to only five. Jackman has starred in other notable movies such as PRISONERS alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, AUSTRALIA, REEL STEEL, FLUSHED AWAY  and many more.
