Jump Street

Sony is definitely into the idea of creating cinematic universes. With the newly announced all female led GHOSTBUSTERS in development as well as the new SPIDERMAN animated films, Sony are hard at work developing another female led version of one of their most recent franchise, the JUMP STREET series.

According to the Wrap, Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs, head writers for the television series BROAD CITY, are already hired to helm the project. Taking place in the same universe as the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill movies, the film will focus on two female detectives taking on their own undercover case, which, if the tone of the previous JUMP STREET movies will continue, will probably mirror the events of the previous films.

Although nothing is confirmed as of yet, the internet is abuzz with the fact that FIFTY SHADES OF GREY star Dakota Johnson, who had previously appeared in 21 JUMP STREET as a young officer, could be involved with the project tying the projects back into one another, although at this stage nothing is confirmed.

However this isn’t the only news surrounding the JUMP STREET universe. Remember the Sony hacks that took place in December? One of the least disastrous news stories to come out of that unfortunate fiasco were the plans for where the Jump Street franchise could go next after the wacky ending to 22 JUMP STREET.

Sony have officially confirmed that they are indeed following up with the idea that both their MEN IN BLACK franchise and JUMP STREET will be crossing over for 23 JUMP STREET.

Star Jonah Hill has openly said that he’s on board with the idea and director Phil Lord has previously gone on record to say “We’re really focusing on what’s a great story for Schmidt and Jenko and how to tell the next chapter in their lives. And perhaps use creatures from another world at the same time”.

It’s not known as of yet as to weather Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones or Josh Brolin will return to star.
