Handkerchiefs at the ready – and it’s only a clip!

Tissues at the ready for this one – and we don’t mean for the film, but for the new clip.

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING tells the story of the most brilliant and celebrated physicist of our time, Stephen Hawking, and Jane Wilde, the arts student he fell in love with whilst studying at Cambridge in the 1960s.

Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with a fatal illness at 21 years of age.  He became galvanized, however, by the love of fellow Cambridge student, Jane Wilde, and he went on to be called the successor to Einstein, as well as a husband and father to their three children.

As Stephen’s body collapsed and his academic renown soared, fault lines were exposed that tested the lineaments of their relationship and dramatically altered the course of both of their lives.

The film was inspired by Wilde’s memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen and stars Eddie Redmayne who plays Stephen Hawking and Felicity Jones as his wife Jane.

The touching new clip gives an insight into their relationship and is emotionally stirring.  It’s evident that despite all of his scientific knowledge, chemistry with a female is not his strength.  As Jane confesses that she loves him, his response is an endearing, bewildered stammer:

“You’ve leaped to a … that’s a false conclusion.” Very sweet!

Emily Watson, David Thewlis and Charlie Cox also co-star in director James Marsh‘s film.

If the clip and the previously released trailers have the power to be so moving, we can only imagine how emotional the biopic will be in its entirety. We can’t wait to watch it. We smell an Oscar buzz around this film already…

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING hits US cinemas on November 7th and January 1st 2015 in the UK.
