The theatre was packed on Saturday afternoon at the SECC Centre in Glasgow for the screening of an exclusive clip from the film DRACULA UNTOLD by Universal Pictures at the MCM Comic Con event.

Tight security measures were taken to ensure there was no recording of any type or photography of the clip, which stars Luke Evans.

The Welsh actor was on hand at the MCM Comic Con event to discuss his role in the film and he delighted fans afterwards by signing posters and having photos taken with 200 lucky ticket winners.

This film has had us all talking from the onset.  We revealed the first poster here when it was released and we thought it looked visually fantastic and then the trailers came and we were excited, but after being able to watch the exclusive clip at MCM Comic Con, we are now VERY excited!

DRACULA UNTOLD is a cinematic re-envisioning of the famous vampire’s origins – one that sees him as more of a dark superhero, complete with a tragic backstory (even before his transformation) than a bloodsucking demon. The film is tipped to be different to other Dracula style movies as the storyline is heavily informed by the actual history of Vlad Tepes, a.k.a. Vlad the Impaler (Dracula) who was Bram Stoker’s inspiration for his supernatural horror icon.

Dracula Untold

The story is set in the 15th century, as Vlad (Evans) finds his homeland facing the threat of invasion by the Ottoman Empire, led by the ruthless Sultan Mehmed II (Dominic Cooper).

Desperate to find a way to defend his people, Vlad ends up striking a Faustian bargain with an ancient evil (Charles Dance) that allows him to gain incredible powers that will help him win the war – but, eventually, at a terrible cost to his own soul.

In the exclusive clip, set in what looks to be a dark, gloomy cave, the eponymous anti-hero, Vlad Tepes has decided to find the power he needs to fight and protect his family and people where he meets the sinister Charles Dance, who plays Caligula, the Roman emperor turned vampire, who makes the transformation.

Despite looking intimidated by Caligula’s presence, a desperate Vlad pleads to him to give him the strength to fight against the Ottoman Empire.  Caligula, the grey-faced, tall, imposing creature, with red-rimmed eyes, questions why he has come for his help.  Vlad’s response? “I can stop them, save my people, save my family.”

Dracula Untold
Charles Dance plays Caligula in Dracula Untold.

If you thought Dance was intimidating as Tywin Lannister in GAME OF THRONES, you haven’t seen anything yet… In the exclusive clip, feeling no compassion for Vlad’s mission, he coldly and spine-chillingly slowly delivers the line, “Why spill blood if not for the pleasure of it?”

Evans, who is playing a leading role for the first time in a film is captivating and convincing. The best line from the clip?  When Evans says: “Sometimes the world no longer needs a hero, sometimes the world needs a monster.”

With that, a giant, slithering, silver tongue travels from Caligula to Vlad’s throat as his transformaton commences. As Vlad questions what he has done, the clip ended with a promise from the vampire: “You have no idea, but I am going to show you.”

With that, the lights came up and we were left wanting more… and we CANNOT WAIT to see the rest! With so many great films coming out in October, this is definitely one that should not be missed.

Unfortunately, we can’t show you the clip, but you can see its fantastic trailer here:

Dracula Untold is coming to UK cinemas on October 3rd and in the US on October 10th.
