Downton Abbey  hit a record breaking 10.5 million viewers in the UK on Sunday evening as the first episode of the fourth series was aired on ITV.

downThe popular British series was nominated for 12 gongs at the 2013 Emmy Awards on Sunday, and despite not winning many of the prestigious awards, it still proved to be a great hit on the home shore with a large amount of the UK population tuning in for the new series of the popular period drama.

Sunday was an entertainment night with the X Factor on just before Downton.  Good news for the show’s cast and creators as last year’s series three opener drew in 9.6 million viewers and the new stats from the Independent newspaper have proven that the ITV hit show is continuing to grow evermore popular.  Quiet rightly so!! What were your thoughts on the first episode of the new series?
