After a plastic water bottle was spotted in a Downton Abbey promo picture, which created an internet storm, the cast respond in impressive form.
Who would have thought a simple plastic bottle could create so much attention? The cast of DOWNTON ABBEY received a lot of unprecedented attention this week after a bottle was accidentally left on the mantlepiece in a promotional shot for series five.
Yep, you are right in thinking that would be an impossible decorative addition based on that time period to appear behind The Earl and Lady Edith and according to ITV it couldn’t be seen in the cropped image, but unfortunately for the cast and creators, the original shot made it onto the internet and caused quite the attention!
They all seem to have found the funny side of the mishap and put the attention to good use by laughing whilst posing with a water bottle to promote the work of charity WaterAid – very clever indeed!
An ITV spokesperson explains how they turned the negative attention to a good cause:
“After seeing the reaction this picture caused earlier this week, the cast and crew came up with the idea of turning some of this attention towards an issue around water that really matters. They hope that by posing for this picture they will be able to raise awareness and amplify the work of international charity WaterAid.”
Barbara Frost, Chief Executive of WaterAid was pleased to have the mishap promote the work of the charity:
“It brought a really big smile to my face when the cast of Downton Abbey said they wanted to support WaterAid’s work. How fantastic that the attention created over one water bottle ends up benefiting some of the world’s poorest communities through access to safe, clean water today.”
It’s good to see that the cast and crew haven’t taken the error too seriously. What a great response!
It won’t be long until the fifth series of Downton Abbey airs on ITV this autumn.
