Wow Disney, once you find something that works for you, you just don’t want to let that thing go, do you?

After the roaring success that The Mouse House has had in the past with live action adaptations of their beloved animated classics including 2010’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND, 2014’s MALEFICENT and this year’s box office hit CINDERELLA, its should come as no surprise that Disney have announced another planned live action adaptation of one of their fairy-tale characters, Prince Charming.

Disney have reportedly purchased a yet untitled script from Matt Fogel. Fogel’s IMDB resume includes credits as assistant director for 2009’s animated classic CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS and for writing the script to BIG MOMMAS: LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON, the third film in the BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE series.

The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news story earlier in the day, have confirmed that the script will not be a bread and butter adaptation of the character and will be more a revisionist history of the character. The script will be in a similar vein to last year’s MALEFICENT, where the characters back story and motivations will be explored in greater detail, with the aim to changes audiences perception of the character.

Disney have already had a go at reinventing and rejuvenating the whole Prince Charming stereotype in this year’s musical INTO THE WOODS in which Chris Pine played the dastardly dashing prince who’s goal was to simply bed Anna Kendrick’s Cinderella character. Although fans of that musical shouldn’t get their hopes up as INTO THE WOODS was a stand alone film based a very popular Broadway musical with the chances of Pine returning to the role near to impossible.

Disney are already hard at work on their other live adaptations of fairy tales with a sequel of ALICE IN WONDERLAND completed and with a release date of summer next year, while BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, starring Emma Watson, Luke Evans and Dan Stevens, has gone into production and is due summer 2017.
