Justice League

The brave, the bold and the uninspired title.

Rumours have been circulating that at least one of the two planned Justice League movies-called Justice League Part One and Justice League Part Two for now-will carry a subtitle.

Assumed to be in the running are: Justice League:United, Justice League:Gods Among Men, Justice League:Angels and Demons, and Justice League:Gods Among Men. Most of which are apt, considering the DC cinematic universe’s tendencies to bludgeon audiences with religious allegories like an overzealous televangelist.

Justice League:United and Justice League:Gods Among Us are the only titles which share a name with a comicbook series or arc. The former shares its name with a shortlived title that chronicled the adventures of a Justice League of lesser known heroes, such as: Animal Man, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter and Supergirl. Together they fought against Lobo and Ultra, the Multi-Alien; who might be a little too surreal for the grim and gritty fledgling cinematic universe.

The latter takes its name from the online game and spin-off comic series Injustice:Gods Among Us. Set on an alternate world, the Joker destroys Metropolis using nuclear devices and tricks Superman into killing Lois Lane. An enraged Superman kills the Joker. Before going on to  forge a totalitarian regime with himself as dictator. Batman works to assemble a team of metahumans to fight against Superman’s forces. It’s the kind of cheery storyline you might expect from DCs recent movies, and was hinted at in one of Batman v Superman:Dawn of Justice’s many dream sequences. But there could be a happy ending tacked on, nobody wants a SuperFascist lunchbox.

DCs Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns later cleared up the rumours by tweeting: “Clearing up any misconception-the Justice League movie is called ‘Justice League.” So, that’s the newish title: Justice League, straight to the point.

Still, there’s still time for that to change and Part Two could use one of the rumoured subtitles or something entirely different, like: Justice League:Dark and Broody or Justice League: Copying Christopher Nolan Movies Doesn’t Work.

Justice League premieres in November 2017, followed by Justice League Part Two in 2019.
