Luke Evans is tipped to take on the iconic role when production begins.

The Crow

For all of those who are eagerly anticipating the reboot of THE CROW, we have some good news – production for the film looks set to start in spring 2015.

The producer of the original film and the upcoming remake, Ed Pressman (WALL STREET, AMERICAN PSYCHO), spoke to THR during the Abu Dhabi Film Festival’s opening night and confirmed that the production of the film is intended to start during spring next year and hopes it will create a whole new following: “It still has a big fan base even though it was so long ago. But the generation today doesn’t even know THE CROW.”

The cult horror film has always had a large fan following and the decision to make a reboot of the 1994 film is a very brave one. Brandon Lee, who played the iconic role in the original movie, will always be attached to the film and the character of Eric Draven in the eyes of devout fans. He tragically died during the making of the THE CROW and his acting received high praise when the film was originally released.

What everyone really wants to know is who will take on the resurrected rockstar? Well, for the new film, a host of actors have been linked to the role, but the favourite is Luke Evans.  The Welsh actor is currently savouring success with Universal’s DRACULA UNTOLD, where he took on his first leading role playing the infamous Vlad Tepes.

Dracula Untold

The 35-year-old certainly has the look to play Eric Draven, with his dark hair and brooding features, which proved to be very effective in his Dracula outing. Eric Draven has his crow, Vlad The Impaler has his bats – and if you have watched DRACULA UNTOLD, you may understand the similarities we envisage.

Evans is no stranger to box office films with stints in FAST AND THE FURIOUS 6 and he will feature once again in Peter Jackson‘s Hobbit trilogy as Bard the Bowman in December.

The actor has previously made reference to the remake revealing that the new film will be authentic and loyal to the original comic as much as possible, but despite all of the speculation, Pressman revealed that casting was yet to be confirmed.

For those who are unfamiliar with the original film and for those who can’t get enough of it, here’s the trailer for THE CROW:
