George Miller wins best director as film wins nine trophies at the Critics’ Choice Awards, boosting its chances at the Oscars where it will compete in 10 categories
It was a good evening for the cast and creators of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD at the Critics’ Choice Awards. The director, Australian film-maker George Miller must be rubbing his hands with joy after his movie swooped a whole host of accolades at the award ceremony.
Sunday evening saw 2015s summer blockbuster be recognised for its achievements in various categories, which is a good indication of what may be at the upcoming Oscars on February 28th. The fourth film in the MAD MAX franchise swept nine categories at the Critics’ Choice awards, including best director for Miller.
The film was nominated in 10 categories and it was almost a clean sweep. They won all of the accolades for the technical awards they were nominated for, will it do as well in its 10 Oscar nomination categories? It will be interesting to see….
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD collected Critics’ Choice wins for production design, editing, costume design, hair and makeup, visual effects, best action movie, best actor in an action movie for Tom Hardy, and best actress in an action movie for Charlize Theron.
Miller will face tough competition at the Oscars, with Alejandro González Iñárritu in the running for best director for the film everyone is talking about, THE REVENANT. It has already won three Golden Globes and bagged 12 Oscar nominations last week, however at the Critics’ Choice awards, the film only scooped two wins out of a possible nine.
THE REVENANT’s star, Leonardo DiCaprio, claimed the Critics’ Choice best actor award, confirming his Oscar frontrunner status and Brie Larson won the award for best actress. SPOTLIGHT – about Boston Globe reporters uncovering a Catholic child molestation scandal – won best picture.
This was the first year the Critics’ Choice combined the awards for film and television into one ceremony. The full list of winners is below.
