It has arrived and it is here with an explosive bang… the first main trailer for MAD MAX: FURY ROAD has landed!
It was only yesterday that we were treated to three new TV spots from the film entitled War, Chaos and Retaliation and they gave us brief snippets of the full-on, all-action scenes from the movie. As super as they are, it is great that the main trailer has arrived and it certainly leaves us counting down for the film’s release in May.
George Miller will once again be at the helm of the movie, while Tom Hardy takes over Mel Gibson’s old role as Max Rockatansky. Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough, and Hugh Keays-Byrne also star.
From Oscar-winning director George Miller, originator of the post-apocalyptic genre and mastermind behind the legendary MAD MAX franchise, comes MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, a return to the world of the Road Warrior, Max Rockatansky.
Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
There has been much discussion of whether FURY ROAD is prequel, sequel or “sidequel” to the Gibson-starring originals. The evidence here suggests that this relatively green Max is far from the gnarled road warrior seen in 1985’s MAD MAX: BEYOND THUNDERDOME.
Miller directed from a screenplay he wrote with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris. Miller also produces, along with Doug Mitchell and P.J Voeten, Iain Smith, Graham Burke and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers.
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD arrives in the UK on May 14th, the same day as its out-of-competition debut at the Cannes film festival, and in the US and Australia the following day.
