Ever since the last series ended, fans of the show have been on the edge of their seats waiting for the second series – and now the wait is finally over.

They got even more eager when ITV tweeted for fans of the show to tweet their own message including #BroadchurchReturns to unlock the trailer back at the end of December.

Once it was revealed, the trailer was shown non-stop on ITV, having its first preview in the ad break of the Christmas episode of DOWNTON ABBEY where the broadcast date was finally released – 5th January.

That day came round a few days ago and here at Film and TV Now, we are still trying to get over the shock of the episode.

Series one ended with viewers finding out that it was in fact Joe (husband of DCI Ellie Miller who was involved in solving the case) who killed Danny Latimer son of Beth and Mark Latimer, despite opinions changing after each episode.

The first episode of series 2 began with the court case of Joe and him pleading not guilty, despite him admitting he was guilty in the last series. This meant a full trial would now take place, which no doubt hooked the audience even before the first ad break ended.

Viewers were also introduced to Claire Ripley (Eve Myles) who we suspected to be DCI Hardy’s (David Tennant) wife, but whom we later found out was linked to Hardy’s previous case, Sanbrook case before he came to Broadchurch. With both cases now intertwining with each other, the audience will be introduced to a few new characters within the coming weeks; amongst these are James D’Arcy and Charlotte Rampling.

Despite it now being a fight for Joe to proven guilty, and not a murder mystery like the last, the new series looks like its once again going to be one of the most popular series of this year.
