Rumour has it that Bradley Cooper is the man who is set to star as the crime-fighting vigilante Mack Bolan in a new film franchise, which is being developed.

According to Deadline, Studio Warner Brothers has bought the screen rights to develop a series of films about Bolan, a pulp hero who features in more than 600 novels.

It is not the first time that anti-mafia operative, Bolan, has featured in Hollywood adaptations with actors such as Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone and Vin Diesel who have all played the role in the past.

Studio Warner Brothers will be hoping that the impending franchise can rival the popularity and global success of  MGM’s JAMES BOND series and Universal’s BOURNE movies – and with someone like Cooper onboard to bring the exposure, we don’t doubt it will be as successful.

The 39-year-old is a big name in Hollywood and he is likely to pull in an eager audience to coincide with the popular novels of Pendleton.  Cooper has become a household name after starring in the popular THE HANGOVER series, David O Russell’s SILVER LINING PLAYBOOKS and the Oscar winning movie, AMERICAN HUSTLE.

The American actor may once again be working with Todd Phillips, the man who directed THE HANGOVER, who is rumoured to be providing his expertise for the Bolan franchise too.

Never heard of Mack Bolan before? Well, he was created by pulp writer Don Pendleton, who wrote an extraordinary 38 books in 11 years before selling the rights. Pendleton continued his involvement after overseeing a team of writers who produced hundreds more books – all of which have sold more than a staggering 200 million copies worldwide!

Unfortunately, Pendleton is not around to see how his vision may turn into a successful Hollywood franchise as the former veteran of the second world war died in 1995.

Have you read any of the novels and can you imagine Bradley Cooper playing the lead role?  Share your thoughts below:
