Starring as Hamlet at the Barbican Theatre in London, Benedict Cumberbatch addressed fans outside the stage door following Saturday night’s show to express how “mortifying” it is to act on stage whilst being filmed.

Cumberbatch began by thanking his supporters, asking them to “tweet, blog, hashtag the sh*t out of this one” as he doesn’t use social media. But the mood took a slight turn after the actor acknowledged that although photography is part of the performance process he is less accepting of it when on stage:

I can see cameras, I can see red lights in the auditorium,” he said, “It may not be any of you here that did that, but it’s blindingly obvious.”

Cumberbatch added that devices would soon be implemented to have individuals “detected and evicted”.
