News about Benedict Cumberbatch and his film commitments seems to be a regular thing at the moment – and you can now add another film credit to the list:  The Jungle Book.

Warner Bros.’ adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s THE JUNGLE BOOK has landed its first voice lead and the vocals belong to one of the most in-demand actors at the moment – Benedict Cumberbatch.

The British actor will voice Shere Khan –  the scary, man-eating tiger who is the villain of the classic tale, hunting for a man-cub named Mowgli who is raised by jungle animals.

The 38-year-old is no stranger to lending his vocals for an animated role after voicing the deadly dragon Smaug in THE HOBBIT trilogy and the Brit will once again be working with Andy Serkis, the motion capture expert who took on the role of Gollum in the movies and was second unit director for Peter Jackson’s trilogy.

Serkis will be making his directorial debut with THE JUNGLE BOOK and we think he will be perfect for the position.

The Warner Bros version of THE JUNGLE BOOK has been penned by Callie Kloves with her father, Steve Kloves of HARRY POTTER fame as the producer.  It will stick with the story of Mowgli an orphaned boy who has been raised by wolves and becomes friends with Baloo the Bear and Bagheera the black panther, who are on a quest to stay away from Shere Khan.

You may be right in thinking that there is another Jungle Book which is being created aside from the Warner Bros version and you are correct.  Disney are also creating a JUNGLE BOOK which is already cast starring Idris Elba who will voice Shere Khan in that adaptation.

Which one will prove to be the most popular?  Only time will tell.  Leave your thoughts below:
