Benedict Cumberbatch discusses getting into character for his new role.

Whilst Benedict Cumberbatch was at the San Diego Comic Con, the British actor discussed how he managed to get into role to voice the character of a wolf called Agent Classified in his new movie THE PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR.  In the new movie the penguins will now take centre stage after being winning favourites in the first film, but it is also Cumberbatch’s involvement which is also drawing a lot of attention to the movie.

He spoke to Good Morning Britain’s, Ross King, to describe how he was inspired by another British icon – Bond.  James Bond.  The Sherlock star admitted that he tried to keep his accent very English and as near to his voice as possible.  He described his character as:

“Very professional, he knows how to seduce, to control, to plan.  He’s all the things that Bond should be, but also he’s incredibly frustrated, chaotic, useless and in desperate need of help from penguins!”

He knows how to seduce, control and plan… Is that life imitating art there, Mr Cumberbatch? We can think of many who would liken those traits to a certain actor…!

Cumberbatch admitted he was inspired by another actor in order to get into role – former Bond actor, Timothy Dalton.

“I channelled a bit of Timothy Dalton in the voice.  It wasn’t intentional and I didn’t realise I was doing it, but I just heard a little bit of ‘get into the car,’ you know, a very serious sort of Bond.  But there was no  Roger Moore, Daniel Craig and there’s no Sean Connery.  There’s not that much manliness to him, he’s very much just sort of English.  Every time you cut away from a moment of action with him, you sort of see him having an espresso with the pinky of his paw sticking up! You won’t get that in a Bond film.  It’s something new for Bond fans!”

In the film, penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private now must join forces with the chic spy organisation, the North Wind, led by Agent Classified to stop the villainous Dr. Octavius Brine, voiced by John Malkovich, from taking over the world.
