Star Wars

The star of the critically acclaimed Netflix original series, BLOODLINES is rumoured to be circling a lead role in Gareth Edwards’ STAR WARS spinoff.

Many of the intimate details surrounding the new STAR WARS trilogy and its spinoffs are unknown. Thus far the only confirmed cast member of ROGUE ONE is Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones.

Apart from portraying Danny Rayburn in BLOODLINES, Ben Mendelsohn has also starred in: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS, KILLING THEM SOFTLY, and THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES.

It is unknown whether the actor is circling a heroic or villainous role, though his IMDB page cites him as a ‘character actor known for playing villains and criminals.’

STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE is the first of three standalone spinoffs, to hit cinemas in between the release of STAR WARS EPISODES VII to IX. It will be the first in continuity live-action expansion of the STAR WARS universe, after two animated STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS and STAR WARS: REBELS detailing the stories of characters on the periphery of events.

Plot details for the feature are yet to be revealed, but it is speculated that it will chronicle the adventures of Rogue Squadron, a twelve-person Starfighter squadron. The squadron have starred in a number of comic books, novels and video games but if the speculation proves to be true, the movie will mark their onscreen debut.

Gareth Edwards will direct ROGUE ONE with a script from Chris Weitz. The second untitled spinoff is set to be directed by Josh Trank and arrive in cinemas in 2018.

STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE is set to begin filming this summer, and will arrive in cinemas on 16th December 2016.
