The Beat Beneath My feet

Scoop Films has announced that its latest feature film THE BEAT BENEATH MY FEET has been nominated for The Raindance Award at the 2014 Moët British Independent Film Awards.

The film, which features a stand-out performance from former Beverly Hills 90210 heartthrob Luke Perry, premiered with two sold out screenings at London’s Raindance Film Festival in September 2014 and opens to sell out audiences on 9th November at Clapham Picturehouse in London. The movie is also scheduled to screen at the historic David Lean Cinema in Croydon, close to where many of the scenes were filmed. More screenings are being added as demand to see the film rockets.

It was only a month ago that we reported the entertaining movie had formalised a wider release for the film and now it is nominated for an award.

The Beat Beneath My Feet is a heartfelt comedy drama set in London, directed by John Williams in his first feature and also stars Lisa Dillon and newcomer Nicholas Galitzine.

Since its debut at Raindance the film has received some fine reviews.

Star of the film Luke Perry commented: I’m so very happy about this. The little movie that could is well on its way to becoming the little movie that did.”

Producer Fiona Gillies said: “We’re so pleased at Scoop Films to be getting our second BIFA nomination. Everything about The Beat Beneath My Feet turned out just great. We are glad that the general public is getting a chance to see the film at Clapham Picturehouse and the David Lean Cinema and we are excited that this recognition from BIFA will help us to bring The Beat Beneath My Feet to the wider film-going public.”

The story is based on Tom (Nick Galitzine), a teenage loner with dreams of becoming a rock star, but he is thwarted by his God-fearing single mother, Mary (Lisa Dillon). Nick’s life takes a dramatic turn when an intimidating stranger moves into the flat below and plays loud rock music throughout the night. Tom recognises his new neighbour (Luke Perry) as Max Stone, a disgraced American guitarist who disappeared years earlier owing a fortune in unpaid tax and has been presumed dead. Tom agrees not to reveal Max to the authorities on condition that he teaches him the dark arts of rock guitar. As their relationship develops, Tom learns that there is a price to pay for living your dreams.

The film explores a number of complex themes: the relationship between teenagers and their parents, self-harming, school bullying, as well as the confusing joy of first love. Ultimately, the film reveals that you can only conquer your demons by finding the courage to face them down.

Scoop Films are crowd-funding the next stage of the film’s distribution journey by partnering with innovative London startup CrowdShed. New finance will fund a marketing and distribution campaign to take the film to as wide an audience as possible.

Now in its 17th year, the Moët British Independent Film Awards were created by Raindance in 1998 to celebrate merit and achievement in independently funded British filmmaking, to honour new talent, and to promote British films and filmmaking to a wider public.
