BAFTA Jpeg

On Monday the nominees for the EE BAFTA Rising Stars were announced.  The award celebrates the fresh talent that has enjoyed a breakout year en route to unprecedented success in the world of movies.

This year’s nominees are: Dane DeHaan, George MacKay, Lupita Nyong’o, Will Poulter and Léa Seydoux.

The award is not something to be sniffed at, as previous recipients include Tom Hardy, Kristen Stewart, Eva Green and James McAvoy.

What makes the award so special for the winner is that it is the only BAFTA award to be voted for by members of the public, which have been nominated by a variety of members in the industry.

The selection jury this year include jury chair, Pippa Harris, Deputy Chairman of BAFTA’s Film Committee, film critic Mark Kermode, casting director Karen Lindsay-Stewart, producer Pete Czernin, director Kirk Jones, film publicist Kate Lee.  The jury was also made up of magazine and newspaper film experts: Empire’s Chris Hewitt, Grazia’s Priya Elan, Heat’s Charles Gant, Metro’s Larushka Ivan-Zadeh and Shortlist’s Martin Robinson.

Actress, Gemma Arterton, was the new edition to the jury this year.

The voting ballot is currently open and closes on the 14th February 2014.
