Poldark

Well, it seems that Aidan Turner’s success with POLDARK has made him a popular figure with the BBC, as the Irish actor is set to return in a new BBC drama.

Filming has started for a three-part adaptation of Agatha Christie’s bestselling crime novel AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, which now has THE HOBBIT star on board.

Turner will star as mercenary soldier Philip Lombard, his first role since his wildly successful appearance as Captain Poldark earlier this year.

This is Christie’s bestselling crime novel of all time and it is set on a rocky island off the coast of Devon as Europe teeters on the brink of World War Two. The murder mystery plot sees ten strangers on the remote island killed off one-by-one.

No doubt having someone involved in the production as popular as Turner will have a good effect on their ratings should he prove to be as popular as his role in POLDARK once more.

The book, which has sold 100million copies worldwide, has been adapted for the small screen for the first time by Sarah Phelps, who was responsible for the recent BBC adaptation of J.K Rowling’s THE CASUAL VACANCY.

Other members of the cast include Douglas Booth, Anna Maxwell Martin, Sam Neill and Charles Dance.

Polly Hill, Controller BBC Drama Commissioning, added: ‘We are thrilled to be bringing Agatha Christie’s wonderful novel to the television screen for the first time. Sarah Phelps’ brilliant adaptation and this stellar cast will prove to be a real treat for the BBC1 audience.’

This year marks Agatha Christie’s 125th anniversary and the adaptation, due to air towards the end of the year, is one of a number of events lined up to commemorate her life.

Filming is currently underway for AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, but no broadcast date has been confirmed yet.
