Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January, David Lowery‘s much anticipated follow up to Disney’s PETE’S DRAGON sees his return to the indies: with a story of a ghost stuck in its former home whilst the world around it changes, better or for worse.

To go from the likes of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES and DUNKIRK to this elegant and frighteningly touching film, Lowery’s simple direction and storytelling creates a chillingly emotional succession of moments that’ll leave the audience contemplating their own existence after leaving the cinema. If life-affirming narratives are what you’re after, this isn’t going to be it.

A Ghost Story

Starring Casey Affleck, after his recent Oscar and Academy Award winning performance in MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, and Rooney Mara after her performance in award winning LION, here subtly prevails. Only given a letter for their names, Affleck and Mara are a couple living in a typical American home; Affleck a musician and Mara the housebound girlfriend, when tragedy strikes and a ghost appears. It’s then the journey of the ghost watching over his former love as she tries to handle the issues at hand before it transforms into several different moments that create heart breaking scenes.

A Ghost Story review

For film fans who love simplistic filmmaking, gorgeous cinematography, beautiful choreographed music and editing that soothes the soul, A GHOST STORY is an experience that’ll stay with you for a long time.

It’s very difficult to write about, to explain and to put into words the emotions and feelings you feel from watching, so I simple ask you to watch rather than read. Don’t let these words ruin the experience or water it down, instead find the nearest cinema showing and go watch for yourself. I guarantee every experience will be different depending on the individual and the type of personality you have. It’s filmmaking on a level that truly creates moments that’ll last a lifetime.
