Shot in POV, we were cruelly left at the end of THE WALKING DEAD: Season 6 knowing that someone, either Rick or one of his group, had been killed by Negan’s barbed wire bat Lucille. But even with this knowledge, nothing could prepare us for the sheer brutality that was to come.

As Negan toyed with the group and the viewers during the Season 7 premiere, Abraham was dealt the first death blow, but it was show original Glenn’s departure which provided the shock factor. I don’t think I can recall a more tense and heartbreaking TV experience, I’m not quite sure I’ve recovered yet.

While we continue to mourn our fallen men, probably until the show reaches its conclusion, here’s 5 times that The Walking Dead sealed Glenn’s fate.

1. When Glenn found a goddamn bat.

2. Glenn is presumed dead following a run with Nicholas, and his name is added to the list of other Alexandria residents who have perished. Maggie, however, believing he’s still alive, wipes his name off, but Glenn is still visible. An eery reminder that the writing is already on the wall.

3. Here we go again with the bat, accompanied by a less than comforting scenario which Glenn would soon find himself in the middle of.

4. As the group decide to take on Negan and his people in exchange for resources, Maggie fears they might lose something, or someone…

5. Following Glenn’s brutal death, we see a member of The Saviors taking a photo of his mutilated body. Prior to this, Glenn had seen these photos, and little did he know he was looking at his own fate.

THE WALKING DEAD continues next Monday at 9pm on FOX.
